Fine Arts Merit Award Scholarship Program
What is FAMAS?
The
Fine Arts Merit Award Scholarship program was established in 2003 to
reward graduates of Kern County High Schools who have exceptional
achievements in the arts.
FAMAS
(pronounced famous) students will receive $5,000 scholarships paid over
four years: first year, $1,000; second year, $1,100; third year, $1,300,
and fourth year $1,600. We currently have ten Fine Arts Merit Award
Scholars. The program is funded through the generosity of private donors
and anchored by a founding gift from Curtis and Peggy Darling.
FAMAS covers all areas of the arts offered at CSUB: painting,
sculpture, photography, printmaking, ceramics, voice or instrumental
performance or composition, conducting, playwriting, acting, stage
management, and theatrical design.
Why should I apply?
If
you are an outstanding student in the arts and would like to be
recognized for your achievements, you should apply for a FAMAS
award. Selection of FAMAS recipients is based entirely on
achievement in the arts.
What are the eligibility criteria?
To
be considered for the FAMAS program, you must meet the following
requirements:
Meet CSU eligibility criteria for admission.
Apply for admission to CSUB as a first- time freshman for
Fall 2009 with a major in
Art, Music, or Theatre.
Audition or present a portfolio of work.
How do I apply?
Applications for Fall 2009
are available on this website and will be accepted from January 1
through March 13, 2009.
In addition to the
completed application, you must submit by mail two faculty
recommendations and a resumι of your accomplishments in the arts.
If you meet the minimum requirements, your application will be reviewed
by a selection committee comprised of scholarship donors, university
faculty, and Advisory Board members, and you will be invited for an
interview/audition/performance review. Recipients will be announced in
April 2008.
