The 2008-2009 Theatrefest Season
Box Office Phone: (661) 654-3150 Picasso at the Lapin Agile by Steve Martin
Directed by Zoe Saba This long running Off-Broadway play places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transforms physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter sets the art world afire with cubism. In Martin’s first comedy for the stage, the popular actor and screenwriter plays fast and loose with fact, fame and fortune as these two geniuses muse on the century's achievements and prospects as well as other fanciful topics with infectious dizziness. Everyman (Anonymous)
Directed by Mandy Rees Written in the late 1400’s, Everyman is a poignant allegory about the task that puts us all on equal footing—coming to terms with mortality. Upon receiving news of his fate from Death, Everyman sets off on an adventure during which he must undergo various trials and sacrifices before he can achieve the state of grace. The play shows us not only how every man should meet death but also how every man should live. Gold Fever by Rita Grauer and John Urquhart
Theatre for Young Audiences Old West history and legend are humorously and imaginatively blended to make a powerful statement about the conflict between personal greed and compassion for others. Set in the historic California Gold Rush, Gold Fever brings together Ben Halladay, "King of the Stage Lines," and a notorious highwayman known as Black Bart, a "forty-niner" who failed to find riches in the gold fields. Next Bart turns to robbing Halladay's stagecoaches. Their ensuing misadventures reveal to both that "Gold Fever can make a man mad!" Senior Project
April 5 at 7pm Anna in the Tropics by Nilo Cruz
Directed by Maria-Tania Becerra The 2003 Pulitzer Prize winner captures a lingering moment on the cusp of the Depression. The last of the Cuban cigar makers in a Florida factory bring an exuberant humor and love of life to their toil. They've tried to create a little city like the one they left behind, but it has turned into a hot and steamy world of danger and betrayal. Into this evocative setting comes a man known as the "lector," who reads aloud in the tradition of the time. His chosen book is Anna Karenina, and the emotions it unleashes change the destiny of everyone who listens. Senior Projects
