PowerPoint Screen Clip
 
NOTE: To have toolbars displayed on the screen choose the menu View/Toolbars then check the toolbars you want on your screen.  I suggest checking Standard, Formatting, and Drawing as a general setup, see above.
Creation Steps
Start PowerPoint
CSUB Lab Microsoft Office Folder  to PowerPoint To Start PowerPoint: 
Home/Typical Office Installation:
Go to Start/ Programs/ Microsoft Office/ PowerPoint (sometimes PowerPoint will be listed at the Programs level)

Or

CSUB labs:
On the Desktop, double click the Microsoft Office folder then Microsoft PowerPoint

Choose a template
Template OptionsTemplate Options
  1. Click by Design Template
  2. Click OK
  3. Choose a template in the New Presentation dialog box, I choose Neon Frame
  4. Click OK

Insert a title slide
Title Slide
  1. Click on the slide type you want, I choose a "Title Slide"
  2. Click OK
  3. Click on Click to add title  text box and type in your title
  4. Click on Click to add subtitle text box and add subtitles presenter, date, etc.

Inserting a graphic
Menu--Insert/Picture To insert a graphic
Choose Insert/Picture then either
    Clip Art...  <-gallery comes with PowerPoint
    From File..<-any internet, digital photo, etc.
OR
Insert Picture IconClick Insert/Clip Art icon on the draw toolbar [see  "f" in graphic at the beginning of this page]. 

You can then place and size the picture as needed.

Inserting a text box
Menu--Insert/Text Box To insert a text box
Choose Insert/Text Box then either

OR

Insert Text Box IconClick the drawing toolbox icon Insert/Text Box icon on the draw toolbar [see  "f" in graphic at the beginning of this page].  ].

You can then place the Text Box by clicking at the appropriate place on the slide and then type and format in the textbox as needed.

Insert slides

Menu--Insert New Slide
To Insert slides
  1. Choose menu Insert/New Slide
  2. Click on the slide type you want, I choose a "Title Slide"
  3. Click OK
OR
Insert Slide Icon Click the insert new slide icon on the toolbar [see  "b" in graphic at the beginning of this page]. 

You can then insert Text Boxes and  pictures as needed.

Choose display mode

Slide Sorter View

Choose the display mode for PowerPoint [see  "f" in graphic at the beginning of this page]. 

A. Normal display: outline on the left, slide on the right
B. Outline view: large outline on left, small slide with place for notes on the right
C. Slide view: displays large view of the slide with editing tools
D. Slide sorter view: displays miniature versions of all slides.  Slides can be selected then copied, deleted, dragged to a new location, etc. A great place to reorganize your presentation, duplicate slides, add transitions, etc.
E. Slide Show: displays slide show from current slide. Click <Esc> key or go to end of show to return from display to edit mode.

Add slide effects
Menu--Slide Show/Preset Animation Effects add focus points to your slide and make your presentaton more visually interesting.  An outline for example can be developed with one line being added at a time. The line can fly in from the top, bottom, left or right. With PowerPoint you can have the same or different effects on each slide.  To add effects to a slides in Normal Display mode:
  1. Select the text box you want to enhance with effects
  2. Choose Slide Show/Preset Animation then select the effect
  3. To see the effect choose the menu Slide Show/Animation Preview.

NOTE: effects can be added to multiple slides at one time. Click the Slide Sorter View

Click the down, "d", arrow beside the effect box

Click the Animation Preview tool, "e" to see the effect

Add slide transitions
Slide Transition Dialog Box Transitions are the display or actions that occur as the presentation goes from one slide to another.  With PowerPoint you can have the same or different transitions between slides. One interesting possibility is to start a narration for the next slide ( to add a narration see Sound Recorder) between slides:
  1. Choose from Slide Show/Slide Transition 
  2. Click the down arrow to display choices
  3. Select the transition
  4. Click Apply or Apply to All to apply the same transition to every slide

Editing Slides--Format Toolbar

Note: a common step I do is to add a new text box that I then format in a variety of ways using the Format Toolbar.
A Insert a hyperlink--select text for link click this button and type in the link target in the box Type the file or web page link 
Add a new slide, click then choose slide type

E Click down arrow to select a text type

Editing Slides--Draw Tools
Draw Toolbar Draw tools are used to create and manipulate graphic objects.  Choose View/Toolbars/Drawing if the Drawing toolbar is not on the screen. The draw tools perform the following operation to selected objects.

A.
Arrange and manipulate paint objects Group, Order, Snap, Nudge, Align, Rotate, Flip) and Change Auto Shapes
B.  Select object cursor
C.  Free rotate a selected object
D. Choose auto shapes
E.  Line drawing tool
F.  Line with arrow tool
G. Rectangle tool
H. Oval tool
I.   Add a textbox tool
J.   Insert WordArt
K.  Insert Clip Art
L.   Fill a shape with color or pattern
M. Choose a line color
N.  Choose a font color
O.  Choose a line style
P.   Choose a dash style
Q.  Choose an arrow style

Save in appropriate format (Publish on web?)
There are two output formats for PowerPoint
  1. File/Save or Save as saves as a PowerPoint file
  2. Save as Web page... This results in an output that contains a frame on the left containing a linked list of slides with the first slide viewed on the right.

Printing PowerPoint
Print Options: PowerPoint has four "Print What" options
Slides--use these to make overheads
Handouts--you can have from two to 6 slides 9 miniature versions of your slides on a page for your use are as handouts.  This is a 6 per page version:
Notes Pages--Use these as handouts for your audience to make notes beside the miniature version of the slide
Outline view--Prints the outline of your presentation
A Click here to print all slides
B Click here to print only those you list
C Type slide numbers to be printed here
D Click here to select the choices of slides, Handout Pages, Notes Pages or Outline View
Choose number of miniature versions of your slides per printed page
Shows an outline version of what your printed page will look like
